Final Blog!

After a whole semester of this reading class, I feel like learned so much about different reading techniques. Learning about topics, main idea, specific details, and summary were the most important to me . While reading through a bunch of information it was always hard for me to pick out those specific things but after learning different techniques I know them so much more!
Ovearll in this semester I finsihed two different novels. The first book I finished this semester was Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Overall, I really enjoyed reading it. I thought it was a fantastic book and I never wanted to put it down because it was just so interesting to me. I liked the fact that you learned everything from her tapes that she made for the thirteen different people. I encourage people to read it if they ever get the chance because it is such a good book and it shows you how words and different things like that can really hurt a person. Liar, Justine Larbalelstier, was another book I finished during this semester. At first I really enjoyed the novel Liar and never wanted to put it down, but then it got to the end and I changed my feelings immediatley. It just ended up weird and wasn’t really my type of book. Although I didn’t hate the book, it just wasn’t my favoirte book that I have ever read.
Overall, I really enjoyed this sememster of reading. I learned a lot and enjoyed two books I would of probably never read if it weren’t for this class. I can’t wait to finish some more books off the novel list in the future!

Thirteen Reasons Why

After reading more and more of the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, i have been more and more involved in it. It's getting pretty juicy. I like hearing more and more about the people that affected Hannah Baker's life somehow in a way for her to commit suicide. It makes me think about how easily this could happen to any teenager. This never happened when i was in high school, but i know it can common in teenagers when they can fit into a certain group and when they are an outcast. Although some of her reasonings seem a bit worse than others, its interesting to see why she chose all these 13 different people. Although i saw this book so many times when i went to the bookstore, i never picked it up because i never thought i would like it and i never really heard much about it. Now i am so glad i finally got the chance to read this book because it is fantastic. I wish i would have read it sooner! It's so hard to put it down because Jay Asher makes me want to keep reading on because it is just so interesting to me! The book can be confusing at times though because it goes from tape to tape to person to person and sometime they connect so you have to remember all the people! Overall, i am so glad i chose to read Thirteen Reasons Why has my novel because it is so good!!

Hannah Baker

In thirteen reasons why by Jay Asher, Hannah Baker is the main character. Although Hannah Baker is dead from the beginning of the story and on, you still learn so much about her through the videos. You learn about the life she lived and how all these 13 different people affected her life in some sort of way. Although i haven't quite finished the book yet, i learned a lot about Hannah. I know that  she committed suicide because of all these 13 people but it also makes you wonder more about Hannah Baker. The fact that she committed suicide is one thing, but considering she took videos before and explained to each of these living humans that she committed suicide seems a little bit weird to me. It's like she wanted more attention even after she committed suicide because why else would she make these people suffer even more by watching these videos.  It makes me think that she was a type of girl that was always looking for the attention. Yeah i understand that each of these 13 people may have hurt in some way, but was it necessary for them to actually hear her voice after the fact that she killed herself. Couldn't she have told them before or something? Or how do we know she never did anything to them so maybe they were getting back at her? I don't know i am very iffy about Hannah Baker even though she is not fully described but she is described through the videos.

Thirteen Reasons Why

After getting farther and farther into Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, its hard for me to put my book down because I really am enjoying it. So many emotions have stirred up within me since I have started reading. While reading it, I have been sad, confused, really interested and shocked, that all these 13 people have to watch someone who committed suicide on video. It’s sad because Hannah Baker committed Suicide and that’s because of all those 13 people that affected her life somehow. You never realize how words from other peers can really affect you in both good and bad ways. Unfortunately, what was said to Hannah Baker was not a good thing. It’s sad to think that she ender her life because of what those 13 people say or did to her. It makes you wish that people could stop what they say to others so things like this won’t have to happen.
Although I haven’t read the whole novel, the part that is bugging me the most is why Clay Jensen is the one who was picked to be one of the main characters. It makes me wonder what he did or said to Hannah Baker to make him be who he is in the novel. I keep reading on thinking he will be next in line out of those 13 people, but I still have yet got to his name. It really is killing me. I can’t wait to keep reading on and to finish this interesting novel!!

Title: Thirteen Reasons Why

The next  novel that i chose to read for class is the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I am only a few chapters in and i already am so into it and really enjoying it. Even though i am only a few chapters in, i can already tell why Jay Asher chose the title Thirteen Reasons Why.  The little is already so significant to the novel. From what i already have read, i believe she chose this title because there are thirteen different sides to the story and why Hannah Baker actually ended her life. She gave the tapes she recorded to thirteen different people and those thirteen different people impacted her life somehow and that is why her life ended. Hannah wanted those thirteen people to watch and really see why she ended her life because they all had to do with it. At first i was curious to see why Jay Asher chose the title she did before i actually started reading it,  but now i totally understand. I don't think Jay Asher could have chose a better title for this novel. It is so simple but yet it still really just sums up the book in just three words. It fits perfectly even after reading only a few chapters, so i can only imagine it will continue to fit even more perfect throughout the rest of the novel. I really have enjoyed thirteen reasons why by Jay Asher and i can't wait to read on!

The Main Character-Micah

In Liar, by Justine Larbalestier, the main character in her the novel is Micah. Micah is mixed and has black short and curly hair. Although Micah is a girl and not a boy, in the novel it describes Micah as a girl who kinda looks like a boy  like a boy.
Micah is a very strange character in the book liar. Throughout the whole story, she tells lies about everything and you never know when she is telling the truth or when she is lying. Everyone at school thinks that Micah is strange and she really doesn't have any friends because of it. Micah is not the type of girl to criticize any other people around her but sometimes she will depending on who that person may be. Micah has a brother in the story and she absolutely hates him. I personally enjoy Micah as a character even though she lies about everything, she doesn't do anything else wrong. Yes, her lying throughout the whole story does get annoying but i feel like after reading the whole book the lying thing just kinda fits Micah well. I think that Justine Larbalestier made Micah a different character than all the other normal characters. She looks different and acts different than all the other characters in the novel. Justine did a good job on making her stand out from all the other characters in the book. Overall, i actually enjoyed Micah in the book liar. I don't think any other character could have fit it so perfectly.

Free choice response- Liar

Liar, by Justine Larbalestier, so far is a great but confusing novel. In Justine's novel, her text is very different then most novels you read. Since she has her text formatted in a before, after, and family history section, it can get confusing at times because it jumps around throughout the whole story. For example, after reading a section on the before, then reading about the family history, and then an after section, i just can get lost because i don't remember what was new and what was old. It also helps at times though because you can read it little by little and so you aren't reading so much at a time. That is what makes Justine make her point in the story by giving us a little bit of each throughout the whole story and not going in order like a normal novel would do.
While reading her novel, her text makes me confused and makes we wonder about Micah. Since she is known as a liar, you can never really tell if she is lying or not. But is she lying about everything or is she really telling us the truth? It really throws me off at some points because i never know if i should believe what she says or if i should know that she is lying about it. At times it can really make me mad because it gets annoying. I can not imagine what it would be like to be around someone who lies as much as Micah does. Overall, Justine's text can be confusing at times but also helpful as well.
